We're taking you to Minorca for the Trail Menorca Camí de Cavalls, mi amigo ! This epic race will take place in May on one of the Balearic Islands in Spain. The Trail Menorca Camí de Cavalls is an event over 15 years old that combines the spirit of sportsmanship, adventure, and celebration! A favorite rendezvous for fans of trail running and nature 🌿, it offers several distances: an 11 km and 27 km, as well as 44 km, 58 km, 85 km, 100 km, and the legendary 185 km tour of the island (to be done solo or in relay), which has been a qualifying race for the UTMB Mont Blanc since 2010 🏔️. All these races are part of the UTMB® World Series 😮. However, the trail itself is much older. During Arab and British invasions, riders and soldiers used this renowned path to defend their land! 🪖 Today, runners joke about retracing these steps, but without the horses 🐎 to cover those 185 km! 🥴 Isn't that an epic race? 🤩
Although the trail takes place in May, the beautiful island offers a sneak peek of summer vacations with its summery climate (expect a pleasant 22°C during the day) and its 96,000 residents who love festivities! 🥳 Minorca always has a festive spirit and makes a wonderful host 😉. Claro que sí, between its many cultural celebrations 🎊, its gastronomy 🦐 that delights many (even the former King of Spain 🤴, with his favorite lobster stew 🦞), the Jaleo 💃 and its 75 beautiful coves and wild beaches 🪸, Minorca is rightfully known as the "jewel of the Mediterranean" 💎. Perfect for a relaxing run in a paradisiacal setting... 🏖️ There are worse things! Plus, if you're taking on the 185 km, you'll have the chance to discover the island in the best way possible: along the seaside 🌊. The sea breeze will give you a boost (and a refreshing touch 🌬️) with every stride during this trail, which spans two days. You'll traverse varied landscapes from countryside, desert areas covered in sand, into the forest, and back to the beach! 😳 The organizers also offer a VIP bib 🌟 granting you several perks to enhance your experience, such as a full tour and tasting of local products 🥘 at a traditional Minorcan finca, or delivery of your race kit to your hotel room, saving you from the queue for bib collection ☝️. Quite a treat!
After this race chase? It's comfort time! Take advantage of your visit to Minorca to explore some local wonders. Did you know this Baleares Island is a cultural treasure? 😍 The paradisiacal beaches of Cala Macarella and Cala Mitjana await you 🫵. Relax and enjoy the tranquility 🌅 of these wild beaches 🌊. However, be cautious not to slip into one of the many caves on the island during your stay... A legend known as La Cova d'en Xoroi tells of a time when a pirate 🏴☠️ kidnapped a woman to make her his bride 💍. They supposedly hid in a cave on the island to avoid discovery... 😨 Successfully so, but their ghosts 👻 are said to roam the shores! Nowadays, locals are torn between finding it romantic or spooky 😬. Either way, it might make you run faster to escape them! 😂 For a more romantic stroll or family outing, we recommend Mahón harbor, with its charming shops perfect for taking home plenty of mementos 🏡, and delightful restaurants. Incidentally, the local drink is Gin Xoriguer, introduced by the English colonizers 🏴. It's not uncommon for you to be offered a small glass 🍷 at the aid stations 🥴 (Always drink responsibly). And watch out, it's like the trail, it climbs quickly! 🫨 But perhaps not as much as La Mola fortress... Dive into local history with a breathtaking view of the sea! This structure 🏰 was built to defend the island against British invasions (what about the Gin?) ⚔️. Continue your historical visit to Torralba d'en Salord, the famous prehistoric village! 🧌 End your odyssey in the authentic Fornells, a romantic village on the island. You'll meet its fishermen 🎣 and locals who undoubtedly wear avarcas, the lovely traditional and seasonal shoes ☀️. We advise against choosing them for your trail run! 🤪
