Spain, Italy, Germany... Not sure which city to choose for your next marathon? Look no further, we've found the perfect compromise: the Marathon of Europe! 😉 As you might have guessed, it takes place in Europe 📍, more precisely in Aveiro, Portugal. At the end of April, with the beautiful spring colors 🎨 and a few rays of sunshine 🌞, you'll be setting off for the 5th edition of a marathon that has nothing left to prove! 😎 Indeed, the name of this event carries the weight of an entire continent for a reason! 🌍 The course, in the heart of the "Venice of Portugal," has seen a shower of records ☔, including the fifth-best time in Portugal's history for the iconic 42.195 km distance. So lace up your sneakers 👟 and don't forget to start your watch, because your personal best might be in jeopardy! ⏱️
While elite athletes from around the world flock to the starting line 🚩, the Marathon of Europe hasn't lost its youthful spirit ☝️. The event also offers 3 other races: a half-marathon, a 10 km run, and even a 5 km walk! If that's not enough to make you dream, here's something better: the course! 😝 Not only is it fast, but it's absolutely stunning 🤩. You'll be running alongside canals and their typical moliceiros, the traditional boats of Aveiro 🛶, and to the sound of rustling leaves 🍃 in the parks 🌳. The architecture won't disappoint either, with a fusion of traditional and modern styles 🏛️, adorning the city with elegant facades and unique ornamental details ⭐. It's no wonder the race is broadcast live 🎥. Yes, you'll be the star of the day, so put on your best t-shirt 👕 and new sneakers: it's time to shine! ✨
And speaking of shining, there are two who are sure to stand out: the two ambassadors! 💪 The organizers have recruited real stars of the running world in Portugal, none other than Aurora Cunha and Joao Neto. A triple world champion in road racing and the "Marathon of impossible things," these champions will provide the motivation you need to complete your race in the best way possible: with a smile! 😁
This smile won't leave you after the race 🤗. Okay, we allow a little grimace to testify to the muscle soreness 🙄, but after a good massage, you'll be ready to explore the rest of Aveiro! ☺️ And don't go empty-hearted, because with its rich natural heritage and warm, passionate hospitality 🥰, you're sure to fall in love. But it's not just the city and its many parks that will catch your eye 👀. If you change one letter in Aveiro, you'll find yourself drinking ‘apeiro’! 🍻 And we know you’re interested now 😏. You won't be disappointed: ovos-moles (literally soft eggs), shellfish 🦪, and crustaceans 🦐 galore... But don't miss the specialty: taupe eggs! A sweet tradition that delights the taste buds of thousands of visitors from all around the world (yes, the whole world) 😋.
So stop being shy and join thousands of other runners to prove yourself at the Marathon of Europe! 🏃➡️
The course will start the same way as the half marathon! ☝️ After passing by the Sailing Academy in Aveiro, you'll head straight to loop around the neighborhood of Gafanha da Nazaré, making a brief detour to Barra! Then you'll return to the city center, near the Central Canal, and follow the same route as the end of the half marathon! 🤓
The beginning of the route will be the same as the 10 km course ☝️. When you reach the city center, you'll head to the Sailing Academy of Aveiro and then make your way toward the Jardim do Rossio 💐, which will guide you for a round trip on the Avenue Doutor Lourenço Peixinho 🛣️. You'll then follow the conclusion of the 10 km 🗺️ route.
Starting from Parc Fonte Nova, you'll head into the Vouga neighborhood 🏙️. You'll then reach the docks at Esteiro da Moça and follow these along the Canal Central in Aveiro. Your route will take you to the city's university and then towards the urban park of Santiago and Parc Da Casa do Bombeiro 🌳. You'll pass by Parc Dos Amores and Parc Infante Dom Pedro before heading back to the finish line at Parc Fonte Nova! 🏁
