The event in a few words

Mirror, mirror, on the wall, who's the fairest of them all… 👸

Here you are in Royan, in the Charente-Maritime department (Nouvelle-Aquitaine) 📍, a famous seaside resort located at the entrance of the Gironde estuary, on the renowned Côte de Beauté with its expansive sandy beaches facing the Atlantic Ocean 🏝. Today, there's no time for sunbathing, you've got to run! 🏃‍♂️ Looking for a race in May by the seaside in a dream setting? 😍 Look no further, the Royan U Côte de Beauté Marathon is perfect for you! Established in 2016, it quickly became a must-attend event on the West Coast. Three distances are available: the 10 km, the half-marathon, and the marathon. For younger participants, there are different dedicated distances, ranging from 400 m to 3.2 km, to be exact 😉.

Regardless of the distance you choose, you’ll be running alongside the Atlantic Ocean while enjoying a route that takes you entirely through the city 🌆. You'll navigate through the streets of Royan with some sections passing through the neighboring towns of Vaux-sur-Mer 🌊 and Saint-Georges-de-Didonne. The landscape isn’t solely urban. Quite the opposite, you’ll run most of your course along the beachfront 🏖️. Don’t worry, you won't have to run on the sand—just take a quick glance to admire the shore. It might tempt you to dive into the water, but that’s for later 🏊. As you stretch your strides, you can enjoy views of nature blending soft sands and rocky reefs. Whether you're into sunbathing or not, you'll quickly become familiar with the local beaches. The route features over 8 different scenic spots! 😲 Pigeonnier, Chay, Pontaillac, and Foncillon are just a mix of some of the coves you'll encounter during your asphalt adventure in Royan. A cove, by the way, is a sandy beach found at the end of a bay nestled between two cliff edges 🧗‍♂️. Enjoy your time along the coast to breathe in the fresh sea air and gather the energy needed to complete your challenge 💪. Following the coastline, you can even marvel at the Vallière Lighthouse, constructed with limestone, which overlooks the estuary and the port ⛵. The finish is just as spectacular 🤩, and we bet you'll love the final 300 meters of your race, which concludes on the beach (yes, again...) of the Grande Conche! Don't worry, you won't get sand in your shoes, as a mat will help you finish with ease 🤓.

Once you've completed your May challenge, you can finally enjoy the beautiful beaches that accompanied your strides 👟. But it’s not over! Since we know swimming can increase your appetite (yes, a quick dip is a must, don't be shy), we suggest you relax on a terrace to savor a delicious Charente galette 😋, accompanied by local oysters and a good Pineau 🍷 (to be consumed in moderation, of course 😉)! Take this opportunity to admire the beauty of the Gironde estuary, the largest in Europe, and the famous Cordouan Lighthouse 🇪🇺. Moreover, this race, with its festive atmosphere, is part of the Challenge of Friendliness! In total, 21 races across France, Belgium, and Germany have been selected. Among them is the renowned Beaujolais International Marathon! 🍇 So, rest assured, Royan promises an exciting atmosphere you simply cannot miss 🥳.
