Instead of starting with the location of a village ๐๏ธ, a city ๐๏ธ or a capital ๐, this time, it's Italy's largest lake that takes the spotlight ๐ฆ for the FILA LAKE GARDA 42.
Located in the northern part of Italy ๐ฎ๐น, Lake Garda ๐ or Lago di Garda is a popular vacation spot nestled between the Trentino mountains in the north, Verona in the southeast, and Brescia in the southwest ๐งญ. But for this event, it's the road warriors who will take part in one of the two distances organized by Communico agency. On the agenda, a half-marathon and a marathon for the running cyborgs ๐ค. And let's not forget our dear little ones ๐ถ, who will also have their race with the LG Kids Run of 600 meters for those under 7 or 1.8 km for those under 12. Temperatures might still be a bit chilly ๐ก๏ธ in early April, so hold off on packing away your technical underwear in the cupboard ๐.
And when April begins, it marks the start of spring ! ๐ธ Ahhhh finally... It's the time when nature ๐ revives and winter โ๏ธ ends! The first buds appear, animals come out of hibernation ๐ป, and birds ๐ฆ return to sing in your ears ๐ถ. Get ready for three months of alternating weather (but not in a work placement ๐ ), between rain ๐ง๏ธ and sunny days โ๏ธ. After all, Italians are our neighbors, so they too will experience the famous spring showers. The weekend's program is versatile, making it an event full of excitement and action ๐ช, offering an escape from winter โ๏ธ, in a breathtaking setting! ๐ฌ๏ธ
We begin with the LG42 (you'll understand why later), a marathon with 180m of positive elevation gain, starting in Limone, a charming village nestled between the mountains and the lake. You'll head towards Riva del Garda, a town located at the northern tip of the lake, with a refreshing lake breeze at your back, before continuing through the orchards of Arco ๐. This Italian town forms an arc (hence its name ๐) around a limestone cliff, shaped by ancient glaciers ๐ง, where the ruins of La Rocca castle ๐ฐ stand.
When the marathoners reach the halfway point, it will be just the start for the LG21 runners, a half-marathon with 50m of positive elevation gain (should be manageable ๐). Then, it's off to the resort town of Torbole, seemingly made for active vacationers ๐, with its many cafรฉs โ๏ธ and restaurants ๐. All runners will then follow the eastern shore south, with the lake on the right โก๏ธ and the mountains on the left โฌ ๏ธ. You'll reach Malcesine with a quick stride ๐ฆต before crossing the finish line ๐ and becoming a finisher of an Italian race ๐.
If you loved the experience in the boot-shaped country, let us offer you more new challenges ๐. The Rome Marathon is one, in the city of seven hills, but also the Bari Med Marathon, facing the Adriatic Sea ๐, or the Venice Marathon, with (almost) as much excitement as the carnival ๐ญ.
From a discovery standpoint, you don't have to go far, as Lake Garda still has many surprises ๐ in store for you. The seaside resort of Riva del Garda, known as "the pearl of the lake", is a Mediterranean oasis at the foot of the Dolomites. You can admire a lush vegetation with lemon trees ๐, palm trees ๐ด, laurels, and olive trees ๐ซ. If you're looking for a bit of change of scenery, venture away from the lake shores and explore the Varone Waterfalls ๐ฆ in Tenno or discover Gardaland ๐ก, Italy's top leisure complex. Lastly, if you're not too tired ๐ด after your finish, take to the skies with the Malcesine cable car ๐ . It will transport you to the summit of Monte Baldo โฐ๏ธ, offering a stunning view of the lake and the mountains, as well as the silhouette of the Scaligero Castle ๐ฐ at its base ๐คฉ.
If you join us, you're in for a treat! ๐
