Ready to run as fast as the Germans drink their beer? 🍻 Head over to Berlin for one of the fastest half marathons in the world! ⚡️ That's right: with a course that's sheltered from the wind 💨, very flat 📏, and featuring an elite field of runners 👆, the Berlin Half Marathon has been the site of the last 7 world half marathon records 😅.
But the real highlight this year is that this highly sought-after half marathon is joining (and logically) the SuperHalfs series! 🏆 So, a quick reminder, the SuperHalfs comprise 6 races - 60 months - 1 medal! 🤩 To clear things up, you have 60 months to participate in 6 half marathons taking place in: Lisbon, Prague, Copenhagen, Cardiff, Valencia, and now Berlin! You can participate in the races in any order, but within the given timeframe 📅. At the end of this journey, you'll receive a medal during your last race 🏅.
If that's not great news! Get ready to be the next one, in April, to race through Berlin's famous avenues 😜. But hurry, spots fill up fast! 🏃♂️ It kicks off at 10:05 AM in the city with a bang 🚩. Even better than a quick tourist train, you'll explore the most popular spots in the capital, including the Großer Tiergarten, the city's largest and oldest park, the Charlottenburg Palace 🏰 (a sight to behold), the Siegessäule, a symbol of Prussia's victory over Denmark, and more... You'll start at the victory column (named appropriately 🏆) and finish at the Brandenburg Gate. As for the rest, we'll leave that as a surprise 🎁.
Even if the weather might not be perfect, with chilly temperatures 🌬️ and unpredictable conditions 😬, you won't be freezing. The event's fantastic atmosphere and the locals' hospitality will likely warm your heart 🔥, and the numerous activities will have you moving! 🎉 Once your journey in the capital is complete, we recommend indulging in a leberwurst (a flavorful liver sausage spread 😋). If you're not a meat eater, you'll find plenty to enjoy: Berlin is the vegan and vegetarian cuisine capital of the world! 🥑 It's also a city rich in history, perfect for history enthusiasts.
So, what's the saying? Ich bin finisher! 🇩🇪
The race will start in Berlin's largest and oldest park: the Großer Tiergarten 🌳. A magnificent avenue awaits you to begin your run, and within the first kilometer, you'll be awestruck by the Siegessäule, a golden column standing 67 meters high 👀. Exiting the park, you'll head approximately 2 km along Otto-Suhr-Allee to reach the Schloss Charlottenburg, a baroque summer palace with expansive gardens! 🏰 Don't spend too long admiring the architecture; instead, continue your run southward through the city to reach Lietzenseepark 🛶, a picturesque spot ruled by ducks! 🦆 At this point, you'll have covered 7 km in the German capital! 🇩🇪 Continuing south, you'll cross over the city's railway lines to reach Agathe-Lasch-Platz 🚊, where you'll need to make a U-turn at the intersection 🔁. A few kilometers will separate you from Gedächtniskirche, also known as the Memorial Church ⛪, a relic from 1890 slightly ruined by the war. This part of the course is lively, with crowds of spectators 🔥 there to cheer you on, so let yourself be carried by the thunderous applause! You'll then head back toward the city center, and don't forget to stop at the 14 km refreshment station 💧, where you can refuel with some energy-boosting snacks and drinks! Next, open your eyes to Warmer Platz; since the fall of the Berlin Wall, this square has been historic and highly visited! Just 5 km left to go, with growing crowds and more turns! You'll need to cross the Spreekanal twice before passing by the Französischer Dom! 🥖 This French church features a dome-shaped tower.
To make the course faster and more appealing for runners, a new 2.5 km section extends past the Berlin Palace and Rotes Rathaus to the turnaround point on Karl-Marx-Allee 📍.
It's the final stretch (literally!) with one last highlight, the Brandenburger Tor (Brandenburg Gate) 😱, the immense Berlin gate topped with a goddess statue and twelve towering columns! You can look forward to an exceptional finish! 💪
