Welcome! Welcome to the Triglav Trail Run 🏞️, where your calves will scream "Usmiljenje!" (Mercy!) louder than a Slovenian in a sauna after a shot of strong schnapps 🔥. Forget leisurely Sunday strolls; this is the high mountains of Slovenia calling ⛰️. Come August, challenge yourself on the Mount Triglav (2,864 m) 🏔️ in a trail with paths more technical than a Slovenian folk dance at a wedding 💃. Here, you'll be running as fast as a careless hiker chased by a bear from the Triglav National Park 🐻.
The Triglav Trail Run offers four courses for four levels of well-measured suffering 💪. If you want to become a legend, the ultra-trail of 78 km with its 4,450 mD+ 😈 is your gateway. You'll cross dizzying ridges, treacherous scree slopes, and landscapes worthy of a postcard 📸, if only you have energy left to open your eyes 👀. Only 150 runners will dare (or be crazy enough) to take it on 😜. But if you seek a slightly more humane challenge, the Triglav Lakes Race 🏞️, with its 44 km and 2,650 mD+, is perfect for you. It takes you through crystal-clear lakes 🌊, aerial paths, and enchanted forests 🌲, where your only respite will be admiring the sky's reflection in the turquoise water before tackling another climb ⬆️. Still too much? Don’t worry, there's also the Vrata Valley Race🏃♂️, 26 km and 1,100 mD+ of pure bliss... or agony 😅, depending on your mindset. And if you just want a taste of Slovenian ambiance without ending up exhausted, the Slovenian Alpine Museum Run 🏃♀️, with its 12 km and 460 mD+, lets you enjoy the experience without too much suffering.
The scenery is breathtaking in the literal and figurative sense 😮. The Triglav National Park 🌍, a true gem of the Julian Alps, is one of the most pristine and spectacular places in Europe 🌿. Mount Triglav (2,864 m) literally means "three heads" and is Slovenia's highest peak. Climbing its slopes is a genuine rite of passage, a tradition deeply rooted in Slovenian culture. You've probably noticed the three peaks on the Slovenian flag 🇸🇮, well, that's Triglav! You'll pass iconic spots like Mojstrana, Vrata Valley, the Peričnik Waterfalls, and the Triglav Lakes. This natural park is a demanding playground, carved by the mountains… and meant for suffering 🥵. With steep ridges, scree, rubble, and forest trails, the course is unforgiving ✋. We hope you'll be as cautious as a slacklining expert because certain sections are only accessible by helicopter 🚁. We’d rather warn you before you dive into this adventure… 👀 You'll soon understand why Slovenians say "Kdor ne zna trpeti, ne zna uživati". In clear terms: "Who can't suffer, can't enjoy" 💪.
But don't worry, once you cross the finish line 🏁, your ordeal turns into a reward 🏆. After climbing mountains, scaling ridges, and narrowly avoiding muscle failure 💥, it's time to discover Slovenian gastronomy 🍴. You'll dive into a hearty bowl of Jota 🍲, a mountain stew made with sauerkraut, beans, and potatoes, as comforting as a fireside in the depths of winter 🔥. If you're still hungry 😋, indulge in Štruklji, those soft Slovenian rolls stuffed with fresh cheese, wallets, or jam 🍇. And of course, you can't leave Slovenia without tasting the Kranjska klobasa, the famous Carniolan sausage 🌭. Take the opportunity to explore more of the local culture by visiting the Slovenian Alpine Museum in Mojstrana, where you’ll learn how Slovenian mountaineering pioneers tackled these peaks before trail shoes and GPS watches existed. With some luck 🍀, you might stumble upon a local festival, where Slovenians, dressed in their narodna noša (traditional costumes), still dance in circles 💃. And if someone invites you to join the dance 💃, don’t overthink it: "smej se in pleši" – smile and dance 💃!
So, are you ready to sign up? Or would you rather wait for the Triglav bear to catch up with you 🐻?
The Ultra-Trail of Triglav takes you on a spectacular and intense adventure, passing through some of the most iconic sites of the Triglav National Park 😍. The route kicks off in Mojstrana and follows the majestic Vrata Valley, where you'll be surrounded by towering mountains. You’ll pass by the Peričnik waterfall, an unmissable spot that leaves an impression in the first few kilometers with its rushing waters 🌊. You'll tackle the ascent to the Luknja bivouac, then continue beneath the north wall of Mount Triglav, a rocky and technical terrain that keeps you on your toes ⛰️. The trail then takes you to Koča na Doliču (2,151 m) and the Hribarice Plateau (2,358 m), where you will reach the highest point of the course 🤩. As you continue through the stunning Triglav Lakes, you'll arrive at the Koča pri Triglavskih jezerih (1,685 m), a place to catch your breath and marvel at the spectacular views 🌅. The journey continues along the most beautiful trails of the Julian Alps, bringing you closer to the Mostnica waterfall 💦. After that, you'll ascend Konjsko Sedlo (2,019 m), then traverse Zgornja Krma and head to Krma Valley to gently descend back to Mojstrana (661 m), where you can celebrate your achievement with unforgettable memories 💭.
This route is a much more accessible challenge, yet just as intense and beautiful 🤩. It begins in Mojstrana and follows the Vrata Valley up to the Peričnik Waterfall 🌊. After that, you'll take a mountain trail leading you to Aljažev Dom (1,015 m), a historic site that prepares you for the efforts ahead. The route then continues toward Stenar and Sovatna, reaching the bivouac under Luknja (1,480 m). From there, you'll do a short ascent before gradually descending back to Aljažev Dom and returning to Mojstrana, following a demanding path that offers incredible views of Mount Triglav and the Vrata Valley. This route strikes a perfect balance between the intensity of ultra-trail running 💥 and the wonderful discovery of breathtaking landscapes.
If you're looking for a shorter experience but still with technical climbs and breathtaking views, the Vrata Valley Race is perfect for you! 🤩 It begins in Mojstrana and immediately takes you into the Vrata Valley, offering spectacular views of the valley and Mount Triglav. The route follows the trail to the Peričnik Waterfall, before ascending to Aljažev Dom. Afterward, you take a path leading to Stenar and Sovatna, reaching the bivouac under Luknja (1,480 m). From this point, you start descending and pass beneath the imposing north wall of Triglav, a landscape that will remind you of the mountain's grandeur 💪. The descent continues back to Aljažev Dom, then you finish with a gentle run back to Mojstrana. It's the perfect challenge for those wanting a bit of everything: climbs, descents, and a technical course in a unique alpine setting 🏞️.
Want to explore the Slovenian mountains without too much effort? The Slovenian Alpine Museum Run is perfect for you! 🙆♀️ With its 12 km and only 460 m elevation gain, this route is ideal for beginners or for those who prefer a more relaxed experience while enjoying breathtaking scenery 🤩. There's no grueling uphill struggle here; instead, you'll enjoy a run that lets you soak in the beauty of the surroundings at your own pace 🏃♀️. You'll pass through peaceful forests, crystal-clear lakes, and picturesque paths where you can truly take the time to admire the environment 🌄.
