Marathon de Salzburg
A serving of Salzburger Nockerln at the aid station? Bless you! 🤧 The 22nd edition of the Salzburg Marathon welcomes you in the picturesque and captivating landscape of Mozart’s city in Austria 🇦🇹. There, the month of May is rather mild and pleasant... 🌼 An ideal setting to run on the cobblestone streets of this beautiful Austrian city, or to boost your chances for a personal best! 💪 Yes, the event offers several distances other than the marathon: a half marathon, a 10 km race, a 4-person relay marathon, a women's race (women only 🚺), a 7km (breakfast run) with 4 different routes and a junior marathon 👶. So, no excuses for bowing out, because there's something for every level! 😜
Whether you're a seasoned runner or a beginner looking for new challenges, this marathon, charmingly called the "Running Festival of Mozart's city", has everything to win you over 🫶. This race, considered one of the flattest in the world 🌍 with its maximum elevation gain of just 9 meters, combines both legendary endurance challenge and cultural history at every kilometer 🏃♂️. Picture yourself running through the historic streets of Salzburg, in this town tucked between the Alps and the Salzach River 🏞️, and finishing your race in front of the famous Grand Festival Hall. The course will reveal breathtaking views, blending the baroque architecture ✨ of the city with the tranquility of the surrounding nature 🍃. And while the beauty of this city rivals the most stunning of Mozart’s masterpieces 🎻, the people of Salzburg are equally passionate about good causes 💚. Indeed, the event is aimed at being sustainable! Free public transport tickets are available during the event 🎟️, your goodies will be provided in an eco-friendly bag, and the refreshments served are from organic farming! 👩🌾 Truly, Austrians live up to their eco-friendly reputation! 🙂↕️
And that's not all! After crossing the finish line 🏁, take the time to explore the wonders of Salzburg and its surroundings ✨. Visit the Hohensalzburg Fortress, one of the largest in Europe, or dive into the musical world of Mozart by visiting his birthplace 🎻. Craving something sweet? The Mozartkugeln (Mozart balls in Austrian) are perfectly round chocolates filled with pistachio, marzipan, and praline 🍫. A delight that will wake up your taste buds! 😋 Looking for nature? The lakes of Wolfgangsee and Fuschlsee, less than an hour's drive from the city of Salzburg, offer idyllic scenery for some waterside relaxation 🚤. To wrap up your stay beautifully, don't miss the Mirabell Gardens and the Hellbrunn Palace, known for their whimsical fountains 🌷. A true feast for the eyes and the spirit! 🤩
So, are you ready to take on the challenge and experience an unforgettable adventure at the Salzburg Marathon? 🏃♂️
Get your running shoes ready 🔥, your starting point is at the Rudolf Quay aka Rudolfskai! You'll follow the Salzach River 💧 to Hellbrunner Street. Then you'll dive right into the city until you reach the southern district of Salzburg ⬇️: Morzg. After surpassing the 6th km 🏃♀️, head back north of the city ⬆️, and circle around Leopoldskron Castle and its pond 🏰. It's a delightful countryside stroll... 🌷 Cross the Lehener Bridge, go past your starting point and off you go for another round! 🔁 The course consists of two loops. But don't worry, it's impossible to get tired of the scenery, even if you see it twice! 😍
You'll be tackling the marathon course... all in one go! 🤪
