Get ready to put your running skills to the test ๐ค in the heart of the Italian Dolomites ๐ฎ๐น by participating in the Primiero Dolomiti Marathon. This July, find yourself in the stunning Trentino-Alto Adige region, specifically in Fiera di Primiero, at the foot of the majestic Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site ๐.
Welcome to the Paneveggio Nature Park, where the Primiero Dolomiti Marathon takes place. Surrounded by pine forests, lush meadows, lakes, and picturesque villages, this race has all the makings of an Italian film...๐ฌ. You don't need to be a climbing expert or a D+ enthusiast here. Whether you're a casual trail runner, an experienced mountaineer, or just a nature lover, there's a distance for you ๐ซต. The star of the event? โญ๏ธ It's undoubtedly the main distance, the 42 km route with its 1242 m ascent and 1543 m descent (mama miaaa ๐ฅต). The race starts at the magnificent Villa Welsperg in the Canali Valley. You'll run through meadows ๐ฟ, gain altitude heading towards the Piereni Plateau, pass through authentic hamlets, encounter local cows ๐ฎ, follow forest trails, and climb (steadily but surely) up to Lake Calaita, perched at 1600 meters altitude ๐. Prefer a lighter version (but just as beautiful)? ๐ The 26 km route, with its 448 m ascent and 1198 m descent, offers a gradual descent from San Martino di Castrozza, a true mountain gem ๐. You'll also pass by Malga Crel and the famous Lago di Calaita, before diving into the Valley of Lozen, and finishing in style ๐บ. The perfect combo for those wanting to feast their eyes ๐ฅ. Not interested? We have shorter, but no less charming options! The 16 km race begins from Zortea, a quaint village nestled in the Vanoi Valley, then takes you up 389 m ascent through typical hamlets ๐๏ธ before joining other trails. In summary: short, beautiful, and great for the spirit ๐. And if you just want to enjoy the ambiance without exhausting yourself, choose the 6.5 km with 267 m ascent. A lovely sports walk scented with nature and fresh herbs, perfect for beginners ๐.
The best part of the Primiero Dolomiti Marathon? What awaits you after the race ๐ฅ. Once you've put away your bib and shoes, the adventure continues in true dolce vita style ! ๐ Start by relaxing in the calm streets of Fiera di Primiero ๐. Then, explore the village of Mezzano, listed among Italy's most beautiful villages, or Siror, an alpine town worthy of a postcard ๐ฉ. Culturally inclined? Don't miss the Palazzo delle Miniere ๐ฐ. For a refreshing escape, head to the Val Venegia Park, a green haven perfect for a stroll or picnic ๐งบ. And, of course, don't leave without trying the local delicacies: steaming polenta, mountain charcuterie, apple strudel ๐, or casunziei ๐ฅ. After all, you've earned it!
When your legs start to tighten on the climbs, you'll know you've reached the perfect al dente state ๐คค.
So, are you ready to tackle the Dolomites' elevation? ๐๏ธ
Welcome to the big leagues! On this legendary distance, you'll start from Villa Welsperg, and one thing's for sure, you're in for a treat with this challenge (and for your eyes, too, rest assured ๐). You'll run at the foot of the Pale di San Martino, brush past Lake Calaita, climb some forest trails, and descend through the villages of Imer and Mezzano โฐ๏ธ. Youโll finish your race in style in Fiera di Primiero, amidst cheering applause ๐.
Looking for flavor without the overload? This 26 km race is just what you need ๐ฅ. With 448 m of ascent and 1198 m of descent, you'll be heading downhill more than uphill (good news or bad, depending on your knees' condition ๐). Start from the stunning San Martino di Castrozza, pass by the picturesque Lake Calaita โ a postcard moment for sure ๐ธ โ and make your way to Fiera di Primiero through the forests and hamlets of Passo Gobbera. With its blend of pastures, valleys, and elevations, the pain will fade long after the pleasure ๐.
No need for lengthy menus to savor Italy! ๐ The 16 km is a little shot of strong adrenaline for trail enthusiasts looking for a challenge without completely exhausting their legs ๐. You start in Zortea, a charming gem nestled in the Vanoi, climb gently through the masi of Lozen, join the longer distance routesโฆ and then it's downhill to Fiera di Primiero. With 389 mD+ and 703 mD-, it's a nice descent with just enough climb to wake up your calves ๐ฅ. Short but intense, like a good ristretto โ.
Want to experience the Dolomites without breaking too much of a sweat? ๐ฆ The 6.5 km is perfect for you, with 267 mD+ elevation gain and an equal descent, all set against a backdrop of magical peaks ๐คฉ. No need for expert skills, just bring your smile and a pair of running shoes ๐. And afterward? Relax on a terrace with some gnocchi and a well-deserved Spritz ๐ฅ.
You can collect your race bib at Centro Sportivo Fossi, Via Fossi 2, 38054 Primiero San Martino di Castrozza (TN). On July 5th from 3 PM to 10 PM.
