The Milan Half Marathon (officially known as the Stramilano Half Marathon) is a must-add to your race calendar in Italy 🇮🇹. This event will have you exploring the iconic landmarks of Milan as you run through the city! 😍 In addition to the half marathon, there are also 2 other races: a 5 km and a 10 km. Choose the distance that best celebrates this sporting event! Lace up your best running shoes 👟, the streets of Lombardy are waiting for you! 🫵
What a sporting event! While Italy 🇮🇹 is known for attracting lovers 🍝, this time, plan a family trip! 🗓️ The half marathon in Milan has something for everyone! Whether you're a professional or an amateur, competing with friends or family, for the competition or just for fun... whatever you're looking for, this event is for you! The event offers 3 different race options on the same day: the half marathon (Stramilano International Half Marathon), which is the classic must-do, a 10 km, which caters to the general public 👯♂️ (pure joy), and finally, a 5 km race (perfect for our younger runners 👨👩👧👦). Awesome, right? 🥳
In 1993, it was right here in Milan that, for the first time, an athlete finished a half marathon in under one hour ⏱️ — clocking in at 59 minutes and 47 seconds. Hats off to Moses Tanui 👏. Known as the fastest half marathon in Italy, you’ll be running on wide, flat, and smooth boulevards 📏. The course is a large loop 🔁 this year. Better than a tourist bus for sightseeing! 🚌 Make sure to pack a light jacket 🧥, because in March, Milano can be a bit chilly ❄️. But don't worry, the vibrant atmosphere of the race will warm you up quickly! Italians are known for their hospitality and enthusiasm... During the last edition, it was quite a show! 🥳 Dancers 💃, parachutists, concerts 🎸, participants in costumes... They truly know how to put on a spectacle!
So, are you ready to take on the challenge of the Milan Half Marathon at the highest level? 🏃♀️ Now all that's left is to convince your friends or family to join you in this exceptional race!
First off, know that the Stramilano Half Marathon is a large loop through the city, before turning around. Yes, the start and finish lines are at the same spot 🏁. The great thing is, you'll get to see all the stunning sights twice 🤩.
The race kicks off at the “Piazza Castello”, right at the base of this massive fortress surrounded by huge fountains ⛲. One of the cool aspects of running the Stramilano is that it comprises several long straightaways. The key is to nail those turns so you can speed up and shave time off your clock ⏱️.
The first meters up to “Porta Volta” are the toughest, but don't worry, your effort pays off once you hit the grand boulevards of “Piazza della Repubblica” and enjoy the views of the beautiful city of Milan 🏙️. Brace yourself for plenty of eye candy, including contemporary architecture famous across Europe and authentic buildings along “Viale Bianca Maria”! But stay focused: the first refreshment station awaits you at the 5th km. You'll find another at 10 km, and another at 15 km... You get the idea! 😅
Then you'll start feeling a sea breeze 🌊. No worries, you haven't run too far! You're just running by the docks of the Darsena: Milan's port! ⚓ At the 10 km mark, you'll reach Parco Sempione. This is where the course turns around. From there, it's easy; you'll already know the way back to the finish line 🏁.
Between us, you're going to have an amazing time… 😎
Much like the half marathon, the 10 km race offers a beautiful loop around the city.
The starting line is at Piazza Duomo 📍, right in the heart of the city 🌆. You'll kick off the race by heading towards Piazza San Babila with its charming fountains 💦, then move on to Piazza Cinque Giornate and Piazza Medaglie d’Oro. That's a lot of piazzas packed into just a few kilometers! 😂 You'll get to discover so many places!
The course continues on a mostly flat surface, almost free of inclines, until you reach the refreshment station at the 8th kilometer. This brief stop should give you the boost you need for the final 2 kilometers 😜. Then, it's all about charging towards the Arco della Pace, where this awesome race concludes! ⚡
Let's go! 🏁
Start your run at the Piazza Duomo, make a loop covering 2 km passing through Piazza San Babila, and continue to Via Manzoni! 🏃♂️➡️ Finish your run at the Arco della Pace 🕊️, where a refreshing drink 💦 will be waiting for you.
The race will start on March 23, 2025, at 8:30 AM at Piazza Castello.
You can pick up your race bib at the Stramilano Center in Milan, Piazza Duomo, from March 15 to March 22, 2025, between 10 AM and 8 PM, and on Sunday, March 23, 2025, from 6:30 AM to 7:45 AM (exclusively for non-residents of Milan).
