Ready to tackle the winding roads 🌀 of the Nice backcountry? If your calves are already protesting, they haven't seen anything yet: welcome to the Mercan'Tour Madone Peille! 🚴♂️ Nestled in the heart of the Alpes-Maritimes 🏔️, this cycling race will let you explore breathtaking landscapes 🌅 in the stunning Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. Here, every pedal stroke is a beautiful escape... But also quite a challenge for your legs! Because yes, the Mercan'tour Madone Peille is anything but a leisurely ride 😅. With its 83 km and 2,000 mD+ for the cautious 😌 or its 118 km and 2,750 mD+ for the tough ones 🦾, this race promises an intense experience where only endurance and perseverance 🥵 will be your allies. Hold tight, here we go!
Both courses, whether you choose the lighter version or the XXL format, will take you to conquer two respected and feared passes: the Col de Braus 🏞️, at an altitude of 1,002 meters, and the Col de la Madone, at 925 meters. Each ascent spans 10 km with an average gradient of 6.6% 📈, and we can hear you from here: "10 km uphill? Can't we just go downhill instead?" Come on, hop on your bike! 🚲 See you at the top 🤪. The good news is that the descents 💨 are not timed to ensure everyone's safety 🧘 (and to prevent asphalt burns, in case you were tempted to set a speed record 😳). Caution is key, but rest assured, the clock resumes when you hit the flats! ⏱️
Beyond the physical challenge 🥵, the Mercan'tour Madone Peille also offers an immersion into the most beautiful scenery around. You'll traverse iconic routes adorned with spectacular views 🌄 that will make you wish for a third hand to snap photos without letting go of the handlebars 📸. You'll pass through Blausasc 🌊, Menton 🍋, and Sainte-Agnès 🌺, two gems perched in the mountains where the colorful facades typical of the south will bring back your smile despite the pain 💥. These Provencal villages clinging to the hillside should motivate you to keep going (and give a little push on those climbs 😎).
Once this adventure is over, you can finally relax 😌 and enjoy this piece of paradise 🌴. Indeed, you won't want to leave without indulging in some regional beauty. Less than an hour's drive is all it takes to find yourself in the heart of Nice 🌆, wandering the quaint streets or unwinding on the famous Promenade des Anglais 🌞. If your calves are on strike and you prefer trading the bike for some nice cars 🚗, head to Monaco! Just about twenty kilometers away, you'll find plenty of luxury, boutiques 💸, and yachts 🛥️. For those who prefer peaceful trails over the principality's cobbled streets, the charming medieval village of Èze 🏰, perched high above, offers a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean 🌅.
So, are you ready to experience the Mercan’tour Madone Peille? Slip into your cycling shorts 🚴, prepare your mind 🧠, and most importantly, save some energy to enjoy this exceptional region. On your pedals, and good luck! 🎉
