Semi-Marathon des Sources du Lac d'Annecy
Are you looking for a fantastic nature race 🌳 by one of the most beautiful lakes in Europe 🚣, featuring picturesque villages 🥰 and a flat course with minimal elevation changes? Look no further! 🙅 We've got just the event for you with the Semi-Marathon des Sources du Lac d'Annecy, happening this October! 🍁 This is an event you don't want to miss! 👇
Let's start with a bit of geography 🗺️. Your adventure begins in the south of Lac d'Annecy, precisely in Doussard 📍. Your mission, should you choose to accept it 🕵️♂️: explore the Sources of the Lake (as the race name suggests, of course 😌). Indeed, the courses are focused on the southern part of the lake, known as "Petit Lac", often described by locals as "the most beautiful and wildest" section (but you can form your own opinion 😉).
Situated between the Semnoz mountains to the west and La Tournette to the east, you'll be in for a visual treat 🤩. Especially at this time of year, at the dawn of the Indian summer, the waters of Lac d'Annecy and the mountain slopes ⛰️ adorned with maples 🍯, beeches, and firs 🌲 glowing in the sunlight 🌞 are dressed in stunning colors 😍. You have two distances to choose from, and they are significant: a 10 km and the well-known half-marathon. There are also kids' races for the little ones. You can find all the details in the "Distances" section below! 😉
Once you've crossed the finish line ☑️, indulge in all the delights that Annecy and its lake 🌊 offer, starting with a visit to the National Nature Reserve of Bout du Lac d'Annecy 🦔🦉, just a stone's throw from Doussard. Enjoy one of the many walking or cycling trails that let you discover the wonders of this paradise 🤤. Prefer two wheels 🏍️? Don't be surprised if you come across the famous Brédannaz Locomotive along the bike path 🚴, a relic of the old railway 🚆 that connected Annecy to Albertville.
Is the post-race program a bit too athletic for your liking? 😅 No worries. We can also tempt you with a foodie angle 🧀. How about a gratin of crozets with a glass of Mondeuse de Savoie (to be enjoyed responsibly, of course) at a local restaurant? 🍷
Come on, say yes to Annecy! 🎶
Your half-marathon will guide you along a smooth starting path 🏃♀️ for a flat and pleasant race to observe 👀. Throughout the route, you might be tempted to turn your head to see the water stretching out before you... But watch out for neck strain! 😬 Several stages will mark your strides during this half-marathon.
You will begin your journey in Doussard, located at the southern end of the lake and to the north of the Regional Natural Park of the Bauges Massif 🌳. From there, you'll take the renowned greenway 🌿 (one of the oldest in France 🤓) that will lead you alongside the lake, near beaches 🏖️ and through the heart of charming small villages 🥰.
After departing from Doussard, you will quickly join the road to Annecy, leading you to the town of Duingt. Here, the famous castle 🏰 offers you breathtaking views of the surrounding water 💧. Note that the castle isn't open for tours, making the half-marathon the best way to view it from every angle 😉. Your time in Duingt will also include a passage through its downtown area 🌆. It’s clear why this village is called the "pearl of the lake." A cultural tidbit: this village is the boundary between the small and large lakes 😏. You will then stride on to Saint-Jorioz, with its beaches 🏝️, port ⚓, and natural surroundings.
Once you arrive in Saint-Jorioz, keep your eyes wide open. You might catch a glimpse of Menthon Saint Bernard Castle on the opposite shore. Only 10 km remain. On your return, you'll take the greenway once more, after a final passage through Duingt 🏔.
PS: If you're lucky, you might spot the local celebrities, the European beavers 🦫. Let's just hope they don't build any dams in your path 🤣.
For this 10 km race, you'll start in Saint-Jorioz and head towards Doussard on an almost straight course, perfect for achieving great performance! 🚀
