Dear finisher,
If you've been inspired by the literary masterpieces of the famed author Jules Verne and wish to pay homage to him, we have just the thing for you: come and Run the Jules Verne! 🏃♀️ The city of Amiens, nestled in the Hauts-de-France region, in the Somme department, has been annually hosting this namesake race since 2014, in tribute to the writer who made Amiens his home in 1871. With a bit of luck, during either a 5 km loop or two loops for a 10 km run ✌️, you might get to enjoy the city's iconic sites under brilliant sunshine 🌞 and pleasant temperatures. However, do check the weather forecast, as there's a chance of rain ☔️. But don't worry! It won't exactly be "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" levels of wet! 😅 Bonus: the 5 km can also be tackled through hiking or Nordic walking 🚶.
If you're looking for a race without particular difficulties and accessible to all levels, Running the Jules Verne is definitely for you! It adds 5 km to your running journey 🏃🏽. You can also sign up for the 10 km to get a second look at each site – just in case you didn't have enough time to take it all in at your top speed the first time around! 😜 It's an unmissable event that last year gathered more than 4,300 participants.
Let's talk about the scenery! ➡️ The race kicks off on Charlotte Boulevard. Along your route, you're sure to be awed by the Notre Dame Cathedral of Amiens ⛪️ and its 42.30 m high vault (no, it's not 42 km, we're not talking marathon here 😉). It's a city emblem, just like the statue crowning the magnificent Dewailly clock at Place Marie Sans Chemises 👔. Don't worry! You won't miss the Amiens City Hall either, with its impressive stature (don't be jealous, you've got the physique of an athlete 😎). After winding through the modern city center, you'll see the famous Jules Verne Circus 🎪. Finally, you'll make your way to Rue Amiral Lejeune, where the finish line awaits. Afterwards, you might still want to enjoy the festivities, live music 🎷, and brass bands at the start/finish lines and along the course 🏁. You can also explore the partner village located on Rue Caumartin. But stay focused: this race has a "regional label" that qualifies you for the French Athletics Championships for both the 10 km and 5 km 🏆.
As the saying goes: "after the effort, the reward". You can indulge in the delicious Macarons of Amiens 😋. And if the running event has taken you through the city's "must-sees", you can always venture out to explore the Bay of Somme 🌊, its stunning landscapes, and its war history.
So, pay tribute to Jules Verne by adding this race to your story! 📕
