The Aude, is one of the 13 departments in the Occitanie region Occitanie. It’s at Saint-Pierre-la-Mer, a seaside resort in the coastal urban area 🏙️ of Fleury, informally known as Fleury-d’Aude, where the Côte Indigo Marathon takes place for its 3rd edition 🥳! Part of the Narbonnaise Regional Nature Park, the town has noteworthy sites, listed in the Natura 2000 network Natura 2000 🦤. Expect great weather 🌤️ at the end of April. With a fairly mild climate 🤗, you’ll have no problem shedding some layers. For this marathon weekend (lol), the city council of this flowering city 🌸 has organized 4 courses in Aude voltige 🤸🏼♂️. A 5 km and a 10 km, a hike, a half-marathon, and a marathon set in a breathtaking natural 🍃 environment 😮💨, between the Mediterranean Sea 🌊 and the Massif de la Clape, also featuring the Wine Route! 🍷 There are also two kids' races for the little lambs 🐑.
With feet 🦶 among the vineyards 🍇 (but in sneakers 👟) and eyes 👀 on the sea 🐠, the stage is set! Côte Indigo welcomes you to three locations each with a unique vibe. Saint-Pierre-la-Mer, already mentioned, is a family-friendly 👨👩👧👦 and natural 🌳 seaside resort of the village of Fleury-d’Aude, a typical Southern ☀️ French 🇫🇷 location. If you're not from the region, you'll be in for a complete change of scenery, guaranteed! The "10 bornes" is actually a 5 km loop to be completed twice ✌️. The marathon will take you near the Domaine de l’Oustalet, where you'll pass the Étang de Pissevaches 🐟, then follow the Aude River to a turnaround point at the Cabanes de Fleury. A small fishing port 🎣 that's stayed wild and natural, it boasts an undeniable charm. The half-marathon course is perfect if you want to explore the hinterland and finish by the seaside with your feet in the water 💦. No matter where you start from, the course will be lively with bands and musicians helping you keep the pace 🎶. Between sea 🌊, salt marshes, and vineyards 🍇, come discover the road to the Gouffre de l'Œil Doux, the Wine Route 🍷, and breathe in the scents of thyme and rosemary from the garrigue 👃🏼. A true biodiversity reserve, the Massif de la Clape offers you rugged terrain for unique landscapes 🤩. A note of caution, though, aside from the hike, all other races are on-road events! 🛣️
Do you love the region and marathons? The Trail de Quillan will let you discover the Pyrenees 🏔️. The Trail de Fontfroide lets you explore the Narbonnaise Regional Nature Park. From a culinary 🍽️ perspective, the oysters 🦪 and mussels from Leucate, grilled, smoked, or plancha-cooked fish 🍳, and Anguille à la Gruissanaise are specialties of the Narbonne area. Once your belly is well-fed, stroll through the city center of "the little Florence of Languedoc". An ancient city of character, its tour also includes religious buildings such as the Saint-Just and Saint-Pasteur Cathedral ⛪, Fontfroide Abbey, and the Lapidary Museum and the Roman Horreum 🏛️.
The program is very Occitan, so don't hesitate and come join us! 😃
