Marathon de Copenhague
The Copenhagen Marathon, have you heard of it? Of course you have! It's hard not to know about this marathon, which ranks among the most famous in the world 🌏. Why? Well, there are several reasons. Firstly, as the name suggests, it takes place in Copenhagen, the capital and largest city of Denmark 🇩🇰. The second reason this 42 km marathon is a must-do for runners worldwide is its course. Oh yes! Let us introduce you to this completely flat course, perfect for setting best records, in one of the most beautiful race routes in the world 🌈.
Copenhagen can boast about having the Little Mermaid, a bronze statue by the water that's become a pilgrimage site 🧜♀️. Every visitor must see this statue, which has become a symbol of Denmark! However, with her fish tail 🐠, this marine damsel wouldn’t be able to run the Copenhagen Marathon: even though it is super flat and perfect for beginners, it remains a marathon... 😅 Since its inception in 1980, the Copenhagen Marathon has continued to establish itself as one of the most beautiful circuits in Europe, in a city rich in culture and history. It's recognized as a "Road race event" by World Athletics 🌏 and endorsed by the Danish Athletics Federation 🏃♀️. This dual institutional recognition attests to the quality of the organization: yes, here you're treated like royalty 👑. Not surprising in a monarchy where the royal family 🤴 has a residence in downtown Copenhagen, the grand Rococo Amalienborg palace situated in a magnificent square 🏰. Moreover, the event's fame is international: with more than 100 nationalities among its 12,000 participants, you can say that the Copenhagen Marathon is a popular race, but not overly crowded.
Like the Little Mermaid from the legend, you might need a magic potion to turn your legs into champion runners' legs 🦿, at least for a few hours 😲. That being said, you can count on the famous Danish concept of hygge (pronounced "hue-gah") to help you feel as light as a top athlete: hygge is all about enjoying the simple pleasures of life with loved ones, in a cozy and intimate atmosphere 💝. It's a philosophy of sharing and authenticity that the organizers of the Copenhagen Marathon masterfully implement!
As with previous editions, this year's event will weave through the center of the Danish capital, a warm and human-sized city. The route will take you through iconic neighborhoods 🙌. You'll explore places like Islands Brygge and the Inner City, the heart of Copenhagen. The royal family's castle, the opera house 🎼, and the architectural gem that is the Skuespilhuset are among the iconic landmarks on your path (sounds exciting, right? 😌). You'll then dash through the hipster neighborhood of Vesterbro, an area teeming with life and animated spectators 🎊! The rest of the race will take you to Frederiksberg, a gorgeous district featuring a magnificent avenue nicknamed the “Northern Champs-Elysées” and impeccably maintained gardens 🌸. By the time you're halfway through, you'll reach Norrebro, where an enthusiastic crowd will be cheering you on. And it's not over yet—before crossing the finish line 🏁, you'll pass through Osterbro, a green district that will make you long for a terrace break ☕. The break will come soon after, as you reward yourself by wandering through a city known for its eco-friendliness, safety, artistic vibe (a perfect opportunity to update your Instagram feed 📸), the kindness of its residents... and its Carlsberg! 🍻
We know, that last argument convinced you 😂.

Then you’ll dash into Vesterbro, the trendiest neighborhood 🤟 in the city, formerly a hotspot for drugs, now a favorite among students and families 👫. The Copenhagen Marathon route runs along the grand boulevards of Vesterbro, dotted with basketball courts, ping-pong tables, coffee shops, and cheerful spectators ! 🥳 As your muscles start to feel the burn, you’ll enter Frederiksberg, an elegant district with beautiful avenues (one is even nicknamed the “Nordic Champs Elysées” 😯) and immaculate gardens. The halfway mark will be behind you as you enter Norrebro, a true cultural melting pot where the scents of kebab, hot dogs, and exotic cuisine 🌮 mix. The lively music and enthusiastic crowd will make you forget that your legs feel like they’re turning into a mermaid’s tail… 🧜♀️
Before heading back to Islands Brygge and the finish line 🏁, you’ll pass through Osterbro, a green neighborhood 🌿 full of adorable squares and quaint shops that will make you want to take a break on a terrace 🍹.
