The event in a few words

What a race in Givry! 🤪

Let's head to the Marathon des Vins de la Côte Châlonnaise in Givry , just a short distance from Chalon-sur-Saône, located in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. The event takes place in March when temperatures can be quite "chilly". It's not like the cozy warmth of your own place in Chalon, but it's refreshing and invigorating, so let's go for it. Organizers offer four distances for this event: 8 km, 12 km, a half-marathon, or a marathon that you can run solo or in a team of three (with staggered starts and a shared finish) 😎. Additionally, you can join one of the 4 hiking routes (5 km, 10 km, 15 km, and 20 km) untimed happening the next day 🏃‍♂️. You'll run through the heart of the vineyards of Saône-et-Loire, passing charming villages and sprawling vineyards, all set in the delightful Burgundy atmosphere 🍇.

Burgundy and its vineyards renowned worldwide are sure to dazzle you 🤩. Just like the costumes worn by participants, which you can don as well if you want to join the fun 🦸‍♀️. You'll start in the village of Givry and make your way through some charming communes such as Mellecey, Rully, Barizey, and Saint-Jean-de-Vaux. Between the 14th and 16th kilometer, you'll cross paths with other runners for some mutual motivation. From there, you'll enjoy idyllic Burgundy landscapes as you traverse wine-growing villages ❤️. The magnificent scenery with vineyards and hills stretching as far as the eye can see will offer you a poetic and gentle running experience. The aid stations are both sporty and festive, featuring delightful gastronomic stops serving the famous Burgundy wines and local delicacies 🥤. Running through the Côte Châlonnaise is something to savor—it's truly a unique experience 😍.

You'll continue to enjoy yourself after finishing in Givry, with the famous Burgundy snails and the renowned parsley ham. Pair these dishes with a glass of wine from the prestigious local vineyards 🍷. Or take a bottle home to enjoy, relaxing with your feet up in your living room—it's a great way to unwind 🛋.

6 reasons to join this race

The Vineyards... and the Wine 😝
We get it. You started the year with that classic resolution: "I’m quitting drinking and getting into sports" 🏃‍♂️. Well, you're in luck! We've got THE solution for you: run your marathon and refresh yourself with a bit of red wine at one of the many (🙄) festive refreshment stops (always drink responsibly, of course). Plus, exercising helps you burn off the alcohol (we haven’t fact-checked this, but let's believe it's true 😅). Cheers! And if you really want to stay serious, you can just enjoy the stunning views of the vineyard... or munch on some grapes 🤤.
The Gourmet Run 😋
Between wine tasting and grand refreshment stations, your belly won't stay empty for long! That's great news since you'll be burning a lot of calories. This way, there's no guilt involved 😇. After the event, we recommend trying a genuine beef bourguignon or coq au vin in this exceptional wine region 🍷. Who said sports and fine dining don't mix well?
The MARA3 🙌
Let me guess. You have friends who always talk about "taking up running" but "never have the time," "don't have anyone to run with," and have a ton of other excuses 😂. No excuses this time because the MARA3 is designed specifically for groups of friends with different fitness levels (or motivation levels 🤭). The concept is simple: the marathon starts with 1 runner and ends with 3. The additional runners join in at the 23rd and 31st km. It's a straightforward and effective way to offer various distances, foster shared experiences, and guarantee a great weekend for everyone 💛.
The Costumes 🧛‍♂️
Are you more of a historical figure or a fictional character? 🤔 You'll face this vital question when you hit the costume store to pick your outfit for the Marathon des Vins de la Côte Chalonnaise. It's time to make your statement! Will you go as Napoleon, Charlie Chaplin, or maybe Pikachu? 🤠 Don’t forget your camera, as this wildly eccentric weekend is sure to produce some memorable moments 📸.
The Festive Atmosphere 🥳
Sports, group races, kids' runs, wine, gourmet meals, and costumes 🤩. The vibe is festive, warm, and energetic. We bet you'll make unforgettable memories—just don’t go overboard with the Burgundy wine 🍾.
The Adaptive Sports Event 👩‍🦽
Are you a para-athlete or an accompanying partner struggling to find suitable competitions? Rest assured, the organizers have thought of everything for everyone: all races are accessible with a joëlette 💪. Coupled with the fact that proceeds from the children's races are donated to charities, it's clear they have a big heart! 💗
