How can we talk about a marathon without mentioning the iconic Valencia Marathon? 🤔 Located in Spain 🇪🇸, the city of Valencia is among the elite destinations for world-class athletics 🏃♀️. That's why we highly recommend you grab your tickets for the Valencia Trinidad Alfonso Zurich Marathon, which is now considered one of the most impressive and fastest marathons on the planet, ranking 4th 🚀. This is the perfect course to break your record (if you're a seasoned runner) or to start your marathon journey on an extremely flat route. Held in December, this must-attend event takes place at a time when temperatures are ideal for running (between 12°C and 17°C), attracting thousands of runners from around the world 🌍, merging sport, culture, and stunning scenery into one fantastic experience.
The 42 km of Valencia, locally known as the Trinidad Alfonso EDP Valencia Marathon or Maratón Valencia 🤓, was established in 1981. In 40 years, it has evolved into a premier sporting event 👆, with over 25,000 participants at each edition. These events often sell out months in advance! Thousands of runners eagerly participate 🎽 for the pleasures this marathon offers 💝. As we head into the 44th edition, you can expect an electrifying atmosphere! 🤪 Get ready for crowds of spectators 📣, impeccable organization 🧅, exciting entertainment 🥳, and an extremely high level of competition 💪. It's an iconic event for many who dream of taking part. It's easy to see why: in 2015, it was part of the international IAAF Road Race Label Events circuit as a "Silver Label" marathon. By 2020 and 2023, it had made the World Athletics Label Road Races circuit under the "Platinum Label" category, making it the first and only marathon in Spain to receive this distinction 🏆.
The Trinidad Alfonso EDP is the 4th fastest marathon in the world! 🚀 Thanks to its orography, climate, and environment, Valencia is a city made for running 🏃. Since 2017, its streets have seen nine world records broken. Currently, the marathon records are held by Ethiopian runner Sisay Lemma, who completed the course in 2 hours, 1 minute, and 48 seconds, and his compatriot Amane Beriso, who finished in 2 hours, 14 minutes, and 58 seconds 🤯. But at the end of the day, it doesn't matter: whether you're a professional or an amateur, everyone is welcome to join! Just lace up and conquer the 42.195 km of the city! You'll see more than you would on a tourist bus 🚌. Valencia is much more than just a race location. It's a beautiful and vibrant city with a mild climate year-round, stunning streets, natural spaces, and memorable monuments—both traditional and historic as well as modern. A cultural cuidad where it's lovely to live, stroll, and explore. Honestly, is there a better way to discover a city than by running a marathon? 😏
The Valencia Marathon starts at the Plaça de la Marató and finishes on the water path of the City of Arts and Sciences 🧬, a spectacular architectural marvel 😍. The course is completely flat and at sea level, often running along the coast 🌊. It goes through broad avenues and the historic center of the city, where the main tourist attractions are located. Plus, there are numerous entertainment points throughout the route that will certainly help you reach the finish line 🏁. You can enjoy all these sights and even more while contributing to a good cause 🤝. The Trinidad Alfonso EDP is a charity event that donates a check to a partner association each year 💸. This year, the Fundación Unoentrecienmil has been chosen to receive this support. The noble cause focuses on promoting research projects aimed at finding a cure for childhood leukemia 🔬, the most common cancer among children 😔. In Spain, one case is diagnosed every day, making it a significant challenge for many families 👦. Last year, €60,000 was raised for another association! 😯
Once this generous act is completed, nothing can stop you from enjoying a delicious paella, some tapas, and a cocktail 🍸. Post-race promises to be excellent, as the city offers a plethora of activities 🙌. You can unleash your inner artist at the opera in the Palais des Arts Reina Sofía, soak in the religious atmosphere of the Cathedral of Valencia, unwind in the Barrio del Carmen, or take a break at the Turia Gardens.
So, shall we head to Valencia? ✊
