Marathon de Tours
In the heart of Indre-et-Loire (37), in Tours, mark your calendar for September 🗓️ for the Marathon, the 10 km, and the 20 km in Tours, the must-attend event in the area 📍. Coinciding with the return of sporting events, it's like the back-to-school season for the locals of Tours 👨🏫. With its exceptional historical heritage, it’s the perfect opportunity to (re)discover Touraine and its cultural richness. Let's take a tour! 😉 Thousands of runners take a tour of the city on classic distances: the 10 km, the 20 km, and the traditional marathon. The 42.195 km distance is also available in a "duo" format 🔗. But that’s not all! The organizers also offer a Nordic walking 🚶🏼♂️ format over 10 km, timed or untimed ⏱️, for those who want to enjoy the beautiful course in a different way 😜. The event also features a wheelchair race of 22.5 km, specially designed for para-athletes, and races for young runners! 🧒 All that's left is to choose your distance and race through the former capital of France 🇫🇷.
On the agenda of your Touraine adventure is a landscape rich in history 📕 : between the ancient Marmoutier Abbey, the Saint Martin’s Basilica ⛪, the Napoleon Bridge, the Mirabeau Bridge, or the Old Town district (that's quite a lot, isn't it?), we hope you manage to keep some focus to run straight! ➡️ And as if that weren't enough, the Château de Tours 🏰 will also be featured (or more like part of the race 😂)! It’s clearly the main Tours-istic attraction in the area: the Loire Castles are all remarkable, often surrounded by gardens ⛲️ or waterways 💦 that enhance their beauty even more. We particularly think of Chambord, Chenonceau, or Amboise 😍. But save exploring these iconic monuments for later, brave finisher 🗡️, and return to conquering the race tracks 🐎. And as we mentioned the environment, you’ll be spoiled on this front as well. You will follow the Loire à Vélo route 🚲, this incredible 900 km cycling itinerary that lets you discover stunning landscapes along the Loire River. It's not the only waterway you'll admire, as running the marathon will give you the privilege of racing along the Cher River. Returning to the starting city, the finish line 🏁 is located at the Place Anatole-France, at the top of the famous Rue Nationale ✨.
In addition to breathtaking landscapes 🌬️, you can shake your body to the rhythm of music bands 🎵 scattered along the route 🕺. Indeed, the atmosphere and hospitality offered by the people of Tours will be simply incredible 🤩. Spectators will gather in large numbers to admire your graceful strides 👏. Not far from your finish line, you'll find Place Plumereau 🪶, which will help you relax after the event: the locals of Tours proudly say it's the best place in France for an aperitif! 🍻 With its old timber-framed houses and the festive atmosphere, you can wander around and enjoy a slice of rillettes (a local specialty 😌) or a piece of AOC Sainte-Maure-de-Touraine 🐐 accompanied by a nice local wine: Bourgueil, Chinon, Montlouis, or Vouvray, giving you a wide range of choices! 🍷

The start of this 42.195 km loop will be just a short distance from Place Anatole France at 7:30 AM ⌚️. As you begin the Marathon, you'll cross the Loire River 💧 via the Pont Napoléon and continue along Quai Paul Bert. This long stretch will lead you to Parc de Sainte Radegonde 🌱, where you'll circle around the Institution Marmoutier and catch a glimpse of its historic Abbey ⛪. The route then takes you alongside the Loire again before you cross it once more, this time via Pont Mirabeau, guiding you to the Château de Tours 🏰. At the 10 km mark, you'll be greeted by two historic landmarks— the Basilica of Saint Martin and the Charlemagne Tower 👑. The squares of Châteauneuf and the Grand Marché mark the start of your loop, taking you through streets like Léon Boyer, d’Entraingues (home to the Prébendes Garden), and Auguste Chevallier before reaching the Cher River, which you'll cross via Pont Saint-Sauveur. The route through Savonnières leads you to the 15 km marker, with a turn around the Golf de La Gloriette ⛳, while the 20 km mark is highlighted by the scenic Lac de la Bergeonnerie. Time will fly by as you find yourself halfway through in the stunning Parc Honoré de Balzac before crossing the Cher River again to loop along the Promenade de Florence. Streets such as rue du Sanitas, avenue Saint-Lazare, and rue Febvotte will take you to Place de la Liberté 🗽 and the Palais des Sports, marking the start of the challenging 30 km stretch. The lengthy avenue du Grammont will guide you to Place Jean Jaurès, with the Grand Theatre of Tours 🎭 nearby. With just 10 km to go to the finish line, you'll revisit familiar spots such as Châteauneuf and the Grand Marché before crossing the Loire River once more via Pont Napoléon. The final stretch mirrors the start of your race, with a right turn after Pont Mirabeau leading you back to Place Anatole France and the finish line 🏁.
Looking for a partner to share the course and support you along the way? This Marathon Duo is perfect for you. The route is exactly the same as the solo marathon. The start is at 7:30 AM. Now, the only thing left is to decide with your running partner who will cover which distance. 🤔 The relay zone for the Marathon Duo is located midway, in the Île Balzac Park. So, take your time to discuss this tricky decision with your teammate, between the first and second half, but remember, no squabbles, okay? 😅
