Sanremo Marathon
Are you ready for the Sanremo Marathon? Then andiamo! ๐ค It's in Italy ๐ฎ๐น, right in Sanremo, in the heart of Liguria, where you'll be racing at full speed ๐. An exceptional setting awaits you along the shores of the Ligurian Sea ๐ and on the old railway line! ๐ For its latest edition, 5 race courses will be offered: 10 km, 21 km, and 42 km, a "Family Run" ๐ช of 2.5 km (open to adults and kids) and a 5 km route accessible to everyone. Expect a big celebration ๐ centered around sports ๐ and tourism ๐งณ.
The Sanremo Marathon route is incredibly scenic as it follows the old railway path and runs along the sea for its entire length ๐ฅฐ. You'll have the chance to enjoy a very fast course since it stretches straight with almost zero elevation (perfect for breaking your personal record โ). The only unwanted guest may be the wind ๐ฌ. But regardless, the marathonโs straight-line course with its "out-and-back" format ๐ will let you reach speeds โก๏ธ that even a sea breeze can't stop!
The course will follow the bike path ๐ด of the coastal park of the Riviera of Flowers ๐ธ. This is one of the iconic spots in the region, stretching along the Italian coastline from Ventimiglia to Sanremo. Nicknamed the "Land of Colors" ๐, Sanremo, with its blooming gardens ๐ rich in exotic plants ๐ด and numerous horticultural farms ๐ชด, is at its heart. In 2000, the Riviera of Flowers saw a major project ๐ง come to life: the railway was elevated ๐ค and the tracks doubled. This freed up an extremely valuable area right next to the sea ๐ . Various institutions took this incredible opportunity to transform the abandoned railway into a coastal natural park ๐ณ, crisscrossed by a 24 km long bike path... Which has become the marathon course! ๐
But there's more! You'll discover other features of the Italian coast: the villages of Arma di Taggia, Riva Ligure, Santo Stefano al Mare and Ospedaletti (e gli spaghetti... ๐ Oh wait, not time to mention that yet ๐ ). Thanks to its multiple events and distances suited for all types of runners, this event is becoming increasingly significant and attracts more and more families and running enthusiasts ๐. Speaking of spaghetti, make sure to enjoy this little weekend in Dante's language for a culinary treat! ๐ Step off the daily grind: pasta, pizza, tiramisu and more ๐ฌ. Weโre giving you a mouth-watering, non-exhaustive list ๐คค, since there is no shortage of typical Sanremo dishes! As a coastal city, its cuisine boasts plenty of seafood ๐: squid ๐ฆ, octopus ๐, anchovies... We hope you're a seafood lover! You can try a sardenaira, the ancient pizza ๐ from Sanremo, paired with a nice glass of Vermentino ๐ท.
The Sanremo Marathon has all the right qualities to offer you an experience comparable to a Michelangelo masterpiece! ๐ผ
