Ready for the Ravenna Marathon? 🏃➡️
The start of this iconic marathon begins in the heart of the city of Ravenna, in the Pala de André🚩 neighborhood. Runners will first head toward the banks of the Canal Candiano 🏃♀️. The initial kilometers will take place along the canal, which opens into the Adriatic Sea 🌊. After this scenic start, you'll head towards Teodorico Park, where there's a statue of the same name. This is the first of many historical monuments you'll encounter during the race, and definitely not the last! 😉 Enjoy the greenery here, as it's the only park you will run through on this road race! You'll then loop around the Ravenna train station and pass by the Parc de la Rocca Brancaleone 🌳, a family favorite spot, before heading to the Arian Baptistery.
Next, you'll reach the Piazza del Popolo and the Palazzo Merlato, another city gem, now the town hall of Ravenna. You'll be truly in the center of the city 🌆. Next up is the 6th-century Basilica of San Vitale. You'll then pass by another Baptistery, the Neonian Baptistery, famous for its Byzantine mosaics. The course will then bring you close to one of the most legendary writers in Italian literature, Dante Alighieri ! 🙌 His tomb is located just before the Basilica of San Francesco ⛪️. Once you pass it, you'll head down with your group of friends towards the Ponte Nuovo area and then to Classe, another neighborhood in the southern part of the city. Here, near the Basilica of Sant'Apollinare, you'll begin your journey back toward the center, with a final detour to the Ravenna Point. The finish line awaits you, amidst cheering crowds, near the public gardens of Ravenna, where the Loggia Lombardesca 🏁 is located.
Just like the marathon runners, the half marathon participants start their race on Sunday morning through a stunning route in the heart of Ravenna 🏃♂️. The race begins in the Pala de André district, located right below the Canal Candiano, which connects the city to the Adriatic Sea 🌊. The first few kilometers are run along the banks of the canal before turning towards Teodorico Park. Ravenna boasts numerous historical monuments ✨. After passing through the park, you'll loop around the Ravenna Train Station 🚉 and head towards the Parco della Rocca Brancaleone, a popular spot for families 😉.
Your journey then takes you to the Piazza del Popolo and the Palazzo Merlato, another of the city's marvels. Next, you'll encounter the Basilica of San Vitale, dating back to the 6th century, and the Neonian Baptistery, renowned for its Byzantine mosaics. Just before reaching the Basilica of San Francesco, the pack will pass by the tomb of Dante Alighieri, one of Italy's most legendary writers 📚. After this point, the half marathon diverges from the marathon course: the finish line is near the public gardens of Ravenna, where you can also find the Loggetta Lombardesca, another of the city's treasures 🏁.
For the participants of the 10 km run, the race will take you through the historic center of the city of Ravenna 📍. The start line is at Pala de André, right by the Canal Candiano. The first few kilometers are along the canal banks before the route veers towards Parco Teodorico, which features an iconic statue of a 5th-century Ostrogoth king 👑, a significant figure for the city. Indeed, your path is lined with historical landmarks 🌟. You will then move on to Parco della Rocca Brancaleone. You'll pass close to the Arian Baptistery, just before reaching the Piazza del Popolo and the Palazzo Merlato, the town hall of Ravenna. The Neonian Baptistery, famous for its Byzantine mosaics, might be a place you'll want to revisit after the race... Just before reaching the Basilica of San Francesco, the pack will pass near the tomb of Dante Alighieri, the legendary writer of Italian literature 📕. The finish line is near the public gardens of Ravenna, where you'll find the Loggetta Lombardesca, another of the city's treasures 🏁.
A 3 km route has been specifically designed for participants with disabilities 👨🦯➡️. Unlike the marathon, half-marathon, and 10 km races, this race starts near the Byzantine Basilica of San Vitale, located just above the Piazza del Popolo and the Palazzo Merlato, the city hall of Ravenna. You'll get to see all the most beautiful historical monuments that this city has to offer. The finish line is at the Loggia Lombardesca, another gem of the city 🏁.
The organizers of the Ravenna Marathon have thought of everyone. With this family race, even the youngest can join in the celebration 🥳. The route is set in the Pala da André neighborhood, just like for the runners of the marathon, the half marathon, and the 10K. It's a loop in this district just below the Canal Candiano, and aspiring runners will receive well-deserved cheers from the crowd! Afterwards, everyone can enjoy some delicious pizza! 🍕
