The event in a few words

Hey passionate runner! ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ Ready for a new adventure? The Pisa Marathon (or Maratona di Pisa) is on the horizon ๐Ÿ‘€. Naturally, the mention of Pisa conjures images of the famed Leaning Tower and tourists pretending to hold up the building with their hands ๐Ÿ“ธ. However, this Tuscan city on Italy's Northern Mediterranean coast ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น has much more to offer! It's filled with buildings โ€“ upright ones at that! โ€“ such as pink brick Renaissance buildings, typically Tuscan palazzi, churches, Languedoc crosses from the Crusades, and quaint alleys ๐Ÿ˜. For those who have a real passion for running, Pisa is particularly noteworthy for an unmissable event: its year-end marathon! And the bonus, there's not just a 42K. More on that below ๐Ÿ‘‡.

The Maratona di Pisa not only offers the classic marathon distance of 42.195 km, but also a half-marathon and a Family Run with a festive twist, the "Christmas Family Run" ๐ŸŽ…, which is 4 miles (approximately 6.44 km) long. This last one is perfect for beating your personal best! A traditional line-up that should convince even the most reluctant family members or friends ๐Ÿ˜‰. All events start and finish at the Piazza dei Miracoli, home to the Duomo (the famous cathedral, a symbol of Pisan Romanesque art with its lavish faรงade), the Baptistery with its immense dome, the Camposanto (monumental cemetery), and the Leaning Tower of Pisa ๐Ÿฅฐ. Whatever you choose, the city's urban and historical scene will be your playground ๐Ÿ›.

If you want to explore beyond the Tower, you can take a tour around the city, which is full of surprises : the via Santa Maria with its elegant buildings, the Piazza dei Cavalieri, the Arno River, the National Gallery, numerous palaces, and also popular neighborhoods where you can indulge in Tuscan cuisine ๐Ÿ˜‹. Pici, fish soup, olive oil bruschetta, Chianti, gelato, Vino Nobile from Montepulciano, Brunello from Montalcino... Tuscany is a true culinary wonder! ๐Ÿคค No doubt, recovery will be both delicious and cultural!

So, ready to speed through Tuscany? The Pisa Marathon awaits you! Get your sneakers on, and see you soon (a presto)! ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ

3 reasons to join this race

For the Christmas Spirit ๐ŸŽ„
At the Pisa Marathon, solidarity is more than just talk; itโ€™s about taking real action! The event supports several charitable causes: 6 individuals from the โ€œHomeless Projectโ€ are involved in the organization, while associations like Rare Partners (supporting research against Usher Syndrome), the Di Ciolo Fencing wheelchair fencing club, the Afaka School Village project in Madagascar, and the La Tartaruga association (related to Parkinson's disease) are all backed by the event ๐Ÿ‘.
To Challenge Your Personal Best โฑ๏ธ
What better way to end the year than with a personal challenge that'll have you crossing the finish line in style! The Pisa marathon and half-marathon offer golden opportunities to set a new personal record at one of these benchmark distances. Itโ€™s the perfect way to get into top shape for another kind of marathon โ€“ the festive season ๐Ÿ‹๏ธ.
To Explore the Region ๐Ÿฅฐ
While the Tower steals the spotlight, the Pisa region deserves its own exploration endeavor: plunge into the silent world of the Pisa Charterhouse, one of Italy's largest monastic complexes, or venture into the Monti Pisani, a mountainous area filled with valleys, forests, olive groves, and quaint villages. If youโ€™re more into seasides than mountainsides, treat yourself to a trip along the nearby coast for a breath of fresh sea air just before Christmas! โ›ต๏ธ
