Run On
"Oh Marbella, you're as lovely as a papaya!" 🥭
Even though there are no papayas in Marbella, the Minions are absolutely right! 😂 The city in Andalusia, located between Malaga and Gibraltar, is a charming seaside resort 🥰. But this is no vacation spot ❌, you'll be enjoying the seaside views while running! 🏃➡️ What, you didn't know? 😱 At the end of September, you're going to run the Marbella Half Marathon (officially known as the Sierra Blanca Estates Marbella Half Marathon by "RUN-On" 🤓)! Pack your bags and sunscreen 🧴. Yes, you've read it correctly, it will still be warm in southern Spain during this time of year! 🌞 Perfect for enjoying an Indian summer and making your colleagues jealous when you return sun-kissed over a month after school starts! 😎
But beware of those tan lines from your swim suit 😬, because with these distances, there's plenty of sun exposure to give you cyclist-worthy tan lines 😅. On the agenda: a half marathon or a 5 km! If you're not ready to tackle the 21.097 km solo, you can bring two of your colleagues 🧑🤝🧑 to run as a relay team! 🤝 And you know what they say: the more, the merrier! 😉 The course will be flat and alongside the Mediterranean🌊, so you can really go for it and try to beat your personal record ⏱️. If you prefer to take your time, we understand! 😉 The scenery will be simply stunning 🤩: from the picturesque streets of the city center to breathtaking views of the deep blue sea 🩵, passing by some luxurious villas and yachts along the coast 💎. With the sea, the mountains, and the local atmosphere 🎉, you won't know where to look first! 😜 But as Dory said to us as kids: "Just keep swimming running!" ➡️.
After crossing the finish line 🏁, how about diving into Andalusian culture? Visit the Church of Our Lady of the Incarnation or the Marbella landmark, the Marbella Building. These two monuments are steeped in history! 📖 You can also stroll along the medieval walls that once enclosed the ancient Arab medina 🕌. Lastly, to understand the Arab influences on the city, you cannot miss the Mosque of King Abdul Aziz, often referred to as the Great Mosque of Marbella ☝️. If you're a bit curious and wish to explore the region over a weekend 🧳, you can set up base in Granada and explore the Alhambra or relax on a terrace lounge chair enjoying authentic tapas in Malaga? 🤤
Come on, you'll be "as lovely as a papaya" at the Marbella Half Marathon too! 🤗
The half-marathon will take you along the Marbella promenade, nestled between the Mediterranean Sea 🌊 and the mountains ⛰️, surrounded by the opulence of Marbella's luxury ✨. The race kicks off at the Arco Marbella, setting you on the National Route N-340. You'll then journey through the bustling Severo Ochoa, Antonio Montero Sánchez, and Duque de Ahumada Avenues before treading the scenic Maritime Promenade, the Marina, and the Urb Bellamar 🛣️. Your route will guide you past the Von Bismark Scattered, the lush Jardin Andaluz Complex 🌷, Urb Ancón Playa, the Rio Verde Beach Promenade ⛱️, and its bridge. You'll finish this stretch at the José Banus Port Dike before turning back! ↩️ You'll retrace your steps in the opposite direction, before triumphantly crossing the finish line under the arch at the Mediterranean Park! 🏁
