The event in a few words
We're not here to smooth out the corners... 📐 Set your course for the 66° South Pyrenees Catalan Gravel Tour! Embark on an adventure between sea 🌊 and mountains ⛰️, in the southwest of France 🇫🇷, near Perpignan, specifically at... *drumroll please 🥁* Les Angles resort! That's right, the qualifications for the UCI Gravel World Series Championships will take place mid-September in the heart of the Pyrenees Catalanes. Don’t worry, you'll be gravel biking, not skiing ⛷️, across 21, 78, or 108 km 🚵♂️. Choose your distance! 😉
Endurance, technique, and challenging climbs are on the menu 🥘. But no need to fret 😅, with good preparation, everything will roll along like on wheels a bike! 🚲 In terms of elevation, you'll climb between 450 m and 1,870 m of ascent 📈. You'll traverse the mountain roads of the region, such as the Capcir and the Cerdagne, peaking at 2,400 m, rocky trails 🪨, and forest paths typical of the southwest! 🌴 Think your legs might get tired? 🦵 Oh my... Just wait until you see the views, because your eyes will be rewarded too 👀. You'll get to admire the Formiguères station with its hook pine forests 🌲, Lake Matemale and Lake Calvet 💧. You'll experience a sports adventure full of effort and discovery 🤩. By the way, the starting line 🏁 is easily accessible by car from the nearest train stations like Latour-de-Carol, or by bus 🚌 which will take you to the right port trail ⛷️. Adishatz! 👋
But that's not all! After conquering this challenge, explore the charms of the region 😍. Nearby, you can visit the animal park of Les Angles in Capcir 🦫, or the Mont-Louis fort 🏰 built by Le Prestre de Vauban himself ☝️, a UNESCO World Heritage site. If you feel like venturing further, don't miss the Romanesque churches and Catalan chapels ⛪️. The area is rich in them! Relax in the Saint-Thomas baths 💦, the hot springs of the Catalan peaks... Guaranteed relaxation 😌. When it comes to food 🧑🍳, make sure to try the cargolade 🐌, Pyrenean lamb 🐑, the famous Catalan fougasse 🥧, accompanied by sheep or goat cheese 🐐, to your liking 🧀.
So get ready, because the Pyrenees are waiting for you 🚲.
