Construction began in 1757 and finished in 1790, taking almost 30 years of hard work! 🚧 Initially, it was a church: the Church of Saint-Genevieve ⛪️. During the French Revolution 🇫🇷, the National Assembly decided to transform the building into a Panthéon, to gather and not forget the great men of the nation ☝️. Hence the famous inscription "To great men, the grateful homeland" engraved on its pediment ✍️.
